“Designer-dog” Daisy, aka “Hiccup,” really scored when she was picked to join the crew of fosters at K9 Adventure Camp a couple weeks ago. Daisy Hiccup is a corgi-cattle dog mix, also known as a cowboy corgi. She is an interesting little dog who was on her third home within just a few weeks, and after one day at home number three was signed over to the Campbell county shelter. She landed at just the right time because one of our foster homes had an opening and was thrilled to take her in. We have found that she is fabulous with other dogs, has good social skills, reads other dogs’ body language well, and responds appropriately. She is one year old, spayed, and current with vaccines and HW testing, as well as microchipped. We have not determined from the foster family what her best placement would be, but obviously, this is a herding dog, and she is not going to be happy sitting around looking cute, even though she really is! A home where she can participate in sports, hang out with other dogs who have the same intensity as she does, an active younger family, anxious to go hiking, running, playing frisbee, and challenging her—these are all possibilities for a good match. For those who wonder why we give background on the origin of dogs to the shelter, it’s so that you will understand how important it is to give dogs time to adjust and adapt. Some people swear by the “three days, three weeks, three months rule,” but we swear by the “two weeks in a home is required to see the true personality” guideline. If you aren’t willing to hold a dog for at least two weeks to see what is going to happen as they unwind and adapt, then you really aren’t ready for another dog. if you think you’re ready for the challenge of this little girl, start with an application found on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
